| Indication/Usage | Adjunct to diet & exercise to improve glycaemic control in adults w/ type 2 DM when treatment w/ both empagliflozin & metformin is appropriate. Adjunct to diet & exercise to improve glycaemic control in childn 10 ≥ yr w/ type 2 DM when treatment w/ both empagliflozin & metformin is appropriate; inadequately controlled w/ metformin alone or in combination w/ insulin; already treated w/ empagliflozin & metformin co-administered as separate tab. Adults w/ type 2 DM & established CV disease to reduce the risk of CV death; should be used in conjunction w/ other measures to reduce CV risk in line w/ current standard of care. | |
| Dosage and Administration | Recommended dose: 1 tab bid. Adult w/ normal renal function (GFR≥90 mL/min) Max daily dose: 25 mg for empagliflozin and 2,000 mg for metformin. Patient not adequately controlled on metformin alone or in combination w/ other products including insulin Empagliflozin 5 mg bid + metformin dose already being taken. | Warning and Precautions | Not to be used in patients w/ type 1 diabetes. Reports of diabetic ketoacidosis; higher risk of ketoacidosis in patients on a very low carbohydrate diet, w/ acute illness, pancreatic disorders suggesting insulin deficiency (eg, type 1 diabetes, history of pancreatitis or pancreatic surgery), insulin dose reduction (including insulin pump failure), alcohol abuse, severe dehydration, w/ history of ketoacidosis. Temporarily discontinue in clinical situations known to predispose to ketoacidosis (eg, prolonged fasting due to acute illness or surgery). Discontinue & institute prompt treatment if Fournier's gangrene is suspected. Assess eGFR before treatment initiation & regularly thereafter. May be used in patients w/ stable chronic heart failure w/ regular monitoring of cardiac & renal function. Caution in patients for whom an empagliflozin-induced drop in BP could pose a risk, eg, patients w/ known CV disease, on anti-hypertensive therapy w/ history of hypotension, elderly ≥75 yr. Reported cases of complicated UTI including pyelonephritis & urosepsis. Carefully monitor vol status & electrolytes in case of conditions that may lead to fluid loss (eg, GI illness). Discontinue at the time of surgery under general, spinal or epidural anaesth; may be restarted no earlier than 48 hr following surgery or resumption of oral nutrition & provided that renal function has been re-evaluated & found to be stable. Avoid use during pregnancy unless clearly needed. Discontinue breastfeeding during treatment. No data available for childn w/ eGFR <60 mL/min/1.73 m2 & <10 yr. Regularly monitor renal function in elderly. | |
| Warning and Precautions | Metformin: Risk of lactic acidosis especially at acute worsening of renal function or cardiorespiratory illness or sepsis. Increased risk of lactic acidosis w/ administration of iodinated contrast agents. Discontinue metformin prior to or at the time of the imaging procedure & do not restart until at least 48 hr after, provided that renal function has been re-evaluated & found to be stable. | Contraindication | Hypersensitivity. Any type of acute metabolic acidosis (eg, lactic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis); diabetic pre-coma. | Drug Interaction | Interference w/ 1,5-anhydroglucitol (1,5-AG) assay. Empagliflozin: May add to the diuretic effect of thiazide & loop diuretics & increase risk of dehydration & hypotension. May increase risk of hypoglycaemia w/ insulin & insulin secretagogues eg, sulphonylureas. May decrease blood lithium levels. Metformin: Increased risk of lactic acidosis w/ alcohol intoxication; iodinated contrast agents; NSAIDs, including selective COX II inhibitors, ACE inhibitors, AIIA & diuretics, especially loop diuretics. Efficacy may be reduced w/ verapamil (OCT1 inhibitor). GI absorption & efficacy may be increased w/ rifampicin (OCT1 inducer). Renal elimination may be decreased w/ OCT2 inhibitors eg, cimetidine, dolutegravir, ranolazine, trimethoprim, vandetanib, & isavuconazole. 4. We will deliver your order as follows:
a) for Home Delivery

You may expect your order to be ready within 2 hours to a day (depending on the availability of ordered item) upon placement of order. You will be notified via call/SMS once your order is ready for pick-up. We encourage you to claim your order within 3 days (during store hours) upon receipt of advice that your order is ready for pick-up, otherwise, such shall deemed as cancelled.
5. We will deliver your order from Monday to Sunday (including holidays) from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.
6. There are two (2) ways to track your order:
a) For every change in the order status, an email will be sent to you.
b) You can also check your order status by signing-in to your account. Just go to “My Account” and click “Orders” to display the order status.
7. In case you are not home when your order arrives, you may have a representative receive and pay the package for you. However, if payment was made via bank transfer, your representative shall be required to present the following:
a) Authorization Letter; and
b) Your Valid ID (with picture and signature) and that of your representative.
8. If nobody is available to receive your order, our Rider will bring your package back to St. Joseph Drug pick-up point branch nearest/ covering the shipping address you specified, for pick-up within the 3-day claiming period or you can have it redelivered but with a corresponding redelivery fee.
ITEM RETURN/ EXCHANGE/ REFUND1. All products ordered from St. Joseph Drug are subject to quality checking by our designated personnel prior to delivery to/ pick-up by customers.
a) Upon delivery to / pick-up by customer:
✔ Please inspect your package in the presence of our Rider/Pharmacy Assistant. Your signature on the Acknowledgement Receipt signifies that you have received the products completely, correctly, and in good condition (not damaged / defective and / or expiring / expired).
✔ You may refuse to accept the product if such is incorrect, incomplete, or not in good condition. For home delivery, we will redeliver the replacement or additional item/quantity free of delivery charge.
b) After delivery to / pick-up by customer:
✔ We will still accommodate request for item return / exchange / refund under the following conditions:
- Promptly returned within 7 days upon receipt of the product
- Duly supported by St. Joseph Drug official receipt
Note : We may require additional documents (e.g. photo of the affected product) to support your request.
✔ The following items will be acceptable:
- items in good condition provided such are:
- not in a vial
- not loose tablets/capsules
Note : The product must be in its original box/packaging (unused) and complete with gift/promo item (if any).
- products with explicit manufacturing defect
Note : Damaged / defective items due to customer's mishandling or improper use will not be accepted.
✔ Once your request is approved, we will redeliver the replacement or additional item/quantity but with a corresponding redelivery fee (except for products with explicit manufacturing defect which we will redeliver free of delivery charge).
✔ Requests for refund will be reviewed and handled on a case-by-case basis and subject to management's approval.

c) proceed to St. Joseph Drug Perez Blvd., Dagupan City branch.

3. Requests for item return/ exchange/ refund will be processed within 2-3 working days upon receipt of the required supporting documents. You shall be notified via call/ SMS once the request has been approved.
